How to get to Hotel Punta Leona

There are two different Roads that you can choose from to get to Punta Leona. One Road is the newest and fastest way to drive to the Hotel. The second and curvier Road is a little longer but it offers a very unique view, passing by little towns where you can stop and visit.
New Highway
Take the Prospero Fernandez Highway west from San José, which becomes the new Caldera Highway (make sure you have change to pay the four tolls) follow the signs to Orotina and after the Orotina exit continue on the Highway towards Caldera and take the Jaco exit. Continue south on the road to Jaco and at the Tarcoles Bridge stop and take a look at the crocodiles Please be aware of your unattended car!!! Continue south and you will see the Carara National Park Entrance on your left. This is a great place to spot wildlife and the scarlet macaw, and continue south for approximately 20 minutes’ and you will see the entrance to Hotel Punta Leona on your right.
From San José:
Take the Panamerican Highway #1 North towards San Ramón / Puntarenas. You will pass the International Airport and the exit on your right to Alajuela downtown. Keep driving on the highway north until the first main exit on your right which has a sign that says: Atenas, Orotina, Jacó, Quepos. Take that exit and turn left immediately at the stop sign. Crossover the highway and continue towards Atenas, San Mateo and then Orotina. Once in Orotina follow the signs to Jacó / Quepos / Manuel Antonio Nat. Park. On the way stop at the Tárcoles Bridge to take a look at the crocodiles Please be aware of your unattended car!!! Continue south and you will see the Carara National Park Entrance on your left. This is a great place to spot wildlife and the scarlet macaw (red parrot). Continue towards Jaco after the entrance to the Carara National Park you will see the entrance to Hotel Punta Leona on your right.

Taxi
There are always taxis outside the airport more than willing to take you to Punta Leona. The orange “Taxi Aeropuerto” taxis are recommended. Taxi vehicles are either small 4-door cars or small minivans
Semi Private Transportation
There are mini buses leaving from any hotel in San Jose everyday at around 8 a.m. that will drop you off directly at hotel Punta Leona in Puntarenas. The return bus picks passengers up from the hotel reception at 3 pm everyday.

Public Transportation
Public buses pass by the entrance gate to Punta Leona. When you board the bus, it is necessary to ask the driver to stop at Hotel Punta Leona. Once at the entrance gate, the guard there will call for the internal shuttle bus, which will transport you to the front desk for check in. Public buses cost between $2.00 and $5.00, but only acept Costa Rican colones. Please note that this type of transportation we consider to be “roughing it”. The amount of baggage you can bring is very limited. Also, please note that it is recommended to purchase tickets a day in advance, to make sure you get a seat.
The bus stop in San José is called the “Coca Cola”. All of these buses can pass the airport when heading to San José, if you request this to the driver, upon boarding.
