Manuel Antonio National Park
Even though Manuel Antonio is the smallest park, it is still perhaps the most scenic of Costa Rica’s National Parks. Pristine sandy beaches separate the luxuriant ground of the tropical rainforest, from the endless expanse of the Pacific Ocean. A sight that is unique and inspiring. You can take a fantastic tour that consists of a peaceful walk through the main nature trails of the Park. Here you might find colorful toucans, lazy sloth and curious monkeys, you will see many different species of tropical flora or fauna from the rainforest..
Just 20 minutes from our Hotel you will find the town of Jaco, which for a long time has been a pillar of tourism in Costa Rica. Due to its close proximity to San Jose City, this beach town is the ideal spring board for those touring the west coast and its wonderful beaches. Nearby Jaco is the excellent surf town of Playa Hermosa, which even hosts an international surfing competition every year.
Carara National Park
Known as one of Costa Rica’s many beautiful national parks, the Parque Nacional Carara lies 5 minutes from our Hotel. This National Park is a very important ecological transition zone. Bordering the Pan-American Highway, the park is unique as the Amazonian and Mesoamerican ecosystems converge here to form a distinct biological reserve where the climates of the Pacific dry north meet the humid south coast. The Park was named after the Huetar word for crocodile, this national park is home to several ecosystems such as marshlands, lagoons, and gallery forests. With a fantastic array of wildlife on display, visiting this park makes for a great family trip. Monkeys, crocodiles, armadillos, peccaries, waterfowls, opossums, sloths, boas, aouti, kinkajou, tayra, margay cats, jaguars, white tail deer and ozelots can be found here, as well as a wide assortment of birds and other reptiles and amphibians. The Carara National Park is also one of the few places where visitors can get to see the rare Scarlet Macaws, Jacamars, and Trogons.
From Punta Leona you can also visit Puntarenas, the largest town in the Central Pacific Coast and one of the main ports for Cruise ships. It is a port also used as a base to catch ferries to the Nicoya Peninsula.
There are many activities that you can do from Punta Leona, you can practice surfing, kayaking and swimming in the amazing waters of the pacific.
